PROBLEM: One of the most frustrating things about hitting is producing ground-ball outs. One way that hitters increase the chance of producing a ground-ball out is by over gripping the bat with the top hand.
Over gripping the bat with the top hand creates tension in the hands, arms and chest. This tension will cause the hitter to swing around the ball instead of through the ball. Hitting around the ball will create a great number of ground ball outs.
SOLUTION: When getting ready to hit let your bottom hand control the bat going back when you load. As your hands load keep the top hand relaxed. By keeping your top hand relaxed going back you will decrease tension and lower the odds of producing a ground ball out – you will also find yourself hitting the ball much harder -another benefit.
